Local data for resilience webinar

Wednesday 10 December 15:00-16:00 CET

This webinar discussed various plans for generating data on local vulnerability and resilience, and focus on the importance of standardized indicators and city data to take a uniform approach to what is measured and how it is implemented. Standardized indicators help cities assess their performance and progress while allowing them to draw comparative lessons. Developments in this direction and the ISO 37120 were shared.

Joyce Coffee from ND-GAIN presented the Notre Dame Global Adaptation Index, which ranks 177 countries based on their vulnerability to climate change and “readiness” to adapt, and introduced different plans to downscale the Index to the city level. Download her presentation.

José Luis Hernandez from the World Council on City Data (WCCD) then discussed the importance of standardized indicators and the role of the WCCD in coordinating efforts on open source city data and implementing the ISO 37120 Sustainable Development of Communities: Indicators for City Services and Quality of Life, the first international standard on city data. He also shared results from the 20 foundation cities that have adopted the ISO 37120 and are now certified under the WCCD and included in the Global City Registry for ISO 37120.
