CEADIR Series webinar: Climate Change Adaptation Planning for Low-Income Urban Populations

Check out the latest webinar of the CEADIR Series on September 20, 2016 focused on climate change adaptation planning for low-income urban populations in developing countries here. The webinar featured:

  • Dr. Anthony Socci of the US Environmental Protection Agency, who discussed the Durban Adaptation Charter, its key accomplishments to date, and its importance for inclusive urban resilience planning.
  • Dr. Hari Bansha Dulal of Abt Associates, who discussed findings from his recent paper on how Asian cities are addressing climate change with adaptation planning and interventions. 
  • Laura Kavanaugh of ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, who explored pioneering approaches to inclusive urban adaptation from cities in developing countries across Asia and Africa. 
  • Darren Manning of USAID’s Office of Energy and Infrastructure, who moderated the discussion.

Resilient Cities Report 2016 is out!

ICLEI launched the Resilient Cities Report 2016 yesterday at Habitat III in Quito, Ecuador. 

The report reflects the outcomes of the Resilient Cities 2016 congress and captures broader developments in the field or urban resilience and climate change adaptation. It is based on the expertise of international experts and practitioners who participated at the congress, July 6-8 in Bonn, Germany. The report features case studies from around the world, highlights newly available tools and solutions, and provides an overview of the state of urban resilience globally by exploring new directions and innovations. 

Resilient Cities 2017 Call for Contributions is now open

Resilient Cities 2017, the 8th Global Forum on Urban Resilience and Adaptation, is taking place on 4 - 6 May 2017 in Bonn, Germany. The annual forum is organized by ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability and co-hosted with the City of Bonn, Germany.

The call for contributions for the 2017 congress is open and welcomes proposals for presentations, panels, workshops, Reality Check Workshops, trainings, facilitated discussions, posters, and co-events. More formats here.

Resilient Cities 2017 will focus on financing resilience, risk transfer and climate insurance solutions, adaptation and DRR planning and policy, mechanisms for measuring, reporting and accelerating action towards urban resilience. Congress themes also include current and pressing issues such as data security, climate-related health risks, and forced migration. Check detailed list of new themes here.

The congress will delve further into these topics, while reviewing local progress on the implementation of global frameworks such as the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the resilience targets of Sustainable Development Goal 11.

Resilient Cities 2016 recap

Approximately 150 speakers, 34 sessions and a number of side events made the 7th Global Forum on Urban Resilience and Adaptation an outstanding platform for learning, sharing ideas, and creating solutions. We were pleased to welcome participants from 45 countries to Bonn, twenty percent from local governments.
