Event highlights included:
The Reality Check sessions: These innovative sessions profiled the unique climate-related problems of four cities and propose policy solutions to usher their local governments toward adaptive futures. Featured cities were: Dhaka, Bangladesh; Durban, South Africa; Quito, Ecuador and Miami-Dade Couty, USA.
Mayors Adaptation Forum: Political leaders discussed strategic local leadership for adaptation and the global political advocacy work of mayors.
Bonn Declaration of Mayors: Resilient Cities 2010 concluded with the first annual Bonn Declaration of Mayors; a road map for the World Mayors Council on Climate Change's trajectory toward the next UN Climate Summit (COP 16) in Cancun, Mexico and beyond.
Mayors' Roundtable Session: "Practical solutions to climate challenges": Mayors from South Africa, India and the USA described the challenges their communities are facing and outlined possible solutions. The session, which was co-covened by the World Bank, the World Mayors Council on Climate Change and ICLEI, contributed to the World Bank Institute's Mayors' Task Force on Urban Poverty and Climate Change.
Launch of the 'Making Cities Resilient' Campaign: The United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) unveiedl its new 2010-2011 campaign- Making Cities Resilient: My City is Getting Ready. City mayors were invited to sign up for ten essentials that will make their cities more resilient to disasters.
